Who Is Really Pushing This? A Lack of Transparency from City Officials

Despite growing public concerns, key Leominster officials have been anything but transparent about their involvement in this project. From the beginning, Mayor Dean Mazzarella has aggressively defended the racetrack, and dismissed legitimate citizen concerns while making multiple documented false statements to downplay the risks.

At the same time, he has told the media that “no official plans exist” and that third-party studies will be conducted before any decisions are made—a classic attempt to pacify and deflect. But if that were true, why weren’t environmental and economic studies conducted before bringing this proposal to the public? And why the hostile defense when the project first surfaced?

What Are Officials Hiding?

🔹 Closed-Door Meetings – City officials have held private discussions with developers and MassDEP, bypassing public scrutiny (Report: Development Opportunity Discussion – Leominster MA.pdf).

🔹 Contradictory Statements – The mayor and developers claim, “no official plans exist”, yet evidence directly contradicts this, showing detailed internal discussions.

🔹 Fast-Tracking Approvals – Officials have attempted to push permits through without full environmental review or public input (Report: Permits and Repairs.pdf).

Leominster Residents Deserve the Truth

City officials work for the people—not for private developers or out-of-state investors looking to exploit our community. So why aren’t they being honest?

Transparency is not optional. It’s time for residents to demand accountability before it’s too late.
